Lori Carnwell is a retiree who has lived most of her life on the Gold Coast, at Tugun and Palm Beach. Lori taught religious instruction for many years, a career which she greatly enjoyed. She has 4 children and 3 grandchildren.

Lori is a proud Democrat, "I agree wholeheartedly with every Democrat policy, and I think Andrew Bartlett has done an excellent job representing Queensland in the Senate. He has worked hard to make Australia a fairer, more just place - unfortunately, with the Howard Government having control of both houses, the Democrats have not been able to play as full a role as we need them to."

A recent experience in hospital brought home to Lori just how desperate things have become in the public health system. "The staff were wonderful - but so over worked, and coping in very difficult situations. It was clear that something is very wrong with how our health system is being managed."

Lori is also particularly concerned about the environment - she wants to see action taken immediately to address climate change, and believes the only thing stopping this is a lack of will on the part of the major parties.

Child protection and children's services are a key interest for Lori as well. Governments must act to properly investigate the problem of child assault, as recommended by the Democrats, and take action to ensure all Australian children are protected and given every opportunity for a safe and healthy life, with access to good quality care and education.
